NE01: Maquette of Spinning Acrobat, metal, wood, drill motor, paint, 47”L x 20”W x 21”D, 2010. This miniature acrobat skeleton rotates, flails and dances above a lighted stage all the while suspended by her bright blue hair. The additional humorous elements of the skimpy bikini combined with large sturdy cowboy boots further perpetuate the suggestion of a fantasy circus world. This piece was created in order to demonstrate one element (in miniature) of the proposed circus.

NE02: Lucky Airlines, steel, glass, 4’L x 6’H x 2’W, 2008. This airplane whirligig was modeled after a 1930’s era Fokker airplane. My father was a pilot in the U.S. Air Force and I have always been fascinated with airplanes. When the wind blows, both the propeller and the entire body of the plane spin. This sculpture was exhibited in a group exhibition at the Beeville Art Museum in Beeville, Texas and at the Houston Art Car Museum in 2009.

NE03: Hell on Wheels, metal and wood, mixed media, 85”L x 55”H x 25”W, 2010. This skeleton motorcyclist sculpture includes the riding helmet of a friend. Various motorcycle and car parts are assembled to appear as though it is a working motorcycle. Dedicated to two recently departed friends that loved riding their motorcycles, this sculpture represents the idea that we all just want to have fun forever.

NE04: Decorative Architectural Screen, 11’L x 17’H x 4”W, steel and amber Plexiglas, 2008. This screen was part of a commission for the lobby staircase at the Dana Hotel in Chicago, Illinois. The organic design is actually an enlargement of my fingerprint. I was commissioned to also create shadowboxes (see image NE06) for the Presidential Suite and the “Vertigo” bar signage for this five star boutique hotel.

NE05: StarMan, 16”L x 14”W x 4”D, Found objects and a plastic mask, 2010. This unusual portrait piece represents an ancient astrologist. He knows what the stars predict but is unable to tell anyone. The idea is that knowledge is sometimes too overwhelming and not knowing what the future holds is sometimes a better state of being. This piece was created when my father was first diagnosed with an incurable cancer.

NE06: Shadow Box, 3’L x 2’W x 8”D, Metal, wood, fabric, 2008. Commissioned by the Dana Hotel in Chicago, this is an interactive shadowbox. The two Chinese warriors actively engage in a sword fight when cords are pulled from below the box. Two of these shadowboxes were created for the Presidential Suite at the Oriental themed hotel.

NE07: Self Portrait #44, 9”L x 11”W x 2”D, screws, metal, paint, 2010. ‘Day of the Dead’ themed skull portrait created with screws and nuts. The skull is smiling, perhaps even mischievously, as I often am myself. The empty space drilled in the upper right resembles either insanity or creativity.

NE08: Blank Look, 12”L x 8 1/2”W x 1”D, found objects, metal, 2010. This is an abstract piece with elements of beauty, danger and expectation. The beauty of the butterfly wings (along with their semblance of death), the danger relayed in the empty ammunition box pieces and the hopefulness in the “You are a winner” pen, the set of keys and the blank receipt slip merge to convey a mix of emotions felt during the time that this was created.
